Preparation Tips For SBI PO Exam

SBI PO exam is a national level exam for recruitment of Probationary Officers in the government owned, public sector bank, State Bank of India. It is conducted every year and is one of the most competitive exams in India. The job of Probationary Officer in SBI is one of the most secure and high-paying government jobs in the country.

The recruitment of Probationary Officers is done in three stages:

  1. Preliminary Exam
  2. Main Exam
  3. Group Discussion and Interview

The SBI PO Prelims is a one-hour, objective type test for 100 marks that includes Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). The exam has three sections, namely Reasoning Ability, English Language, and Quantitative Aptitude.

Candidates who qualify in the Preliminary Exam are eligible to appear for the Main Exam.

The SBI PO Main Exam has two parts – Objective Test and Descriptive Test.

The Objective Test has four sections, namely English Language, Data Analysis and Interpretation, General, Economy, Banking Awareness, and Reasoning and Computer Aptitude. The Objective Test is of 200 marks. The Descriptive Test, which carries 50 marks, includes essay writing and letter writing.

More emphasis should be put on questions on seating arrangement, syllogism, coding-decoding, and puzzles.
  2. English Language section can be answered if you have the basic knowledge of grammar rules. Also, having a strong vocabulary helps a lot. Try to learn as many synonyms and antonyms as possible.
  3. Quantitative Aptitude, as well as Data Analysis and Interpretation both, require the basic mathematical and computational skills. Remember all the formulas from the syllabus of Class 9 and 10 – profit and loss, percentage, etc. Regular practice is a must.
  4. General Awareness section can be answered through regular reading of newspapers as well as current affairs magazine.
  5. You can easily score full marks in the Computer Section with the basic knowledge of computer software, hardware, and MS Office, shortcuts.
